Queensland teen charged over crash that killed man on mobility scooter

A teenager has been charged with drug and driving offences after a crash that killed a man on a mobility scooter south of Brisbane.

Members of the public restrained the 17-year-old after the Saturday morning crash in the Logan suburb of Kingston.

Police arrested the Waterford West boy at the scene and announced a string of charges had been laid against him on Sunday night.

It's alleged the teen failed to stop the Ford Focus he was driving at a stop sign on Anthony Street about 10.40am, colliding with a Holden Barina and then a 76-year-old man on a mobility scooter.

The man died at the scene, the Barina driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and police said a male and female in the Focus left the scene on foot.

Police allegedly found cannabis, medication not prescribed to the boy and two stolen cards when they searched him and his backpack.

He was charged with seven offences over the incident including dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death whilst adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, leaving the scene of an incident without getting help, unlicensed driving and drug possession.

He was also charged with nine property charges over alleged offences on Thursday in the Logan area.

He was refused bail to face Beenleigh Children's Court today.

A 16-year-old girl who hadn't been charged was helping police with their investigations.
